Working bee near Verdun Street, 1200 plants in!

Image
The working bee of Sunday 28 August put in around 1200 seedlings along the embankment down from the playground and the sides of the creek.  A committed group of twelve kept going until nearly all the plants were gone. Adrian's powered hole digger certainly speeds things up. It was quite a long site so we had two planting parties quite separate from each other. A special mention for Suet Mon and her son Thomas, who is in Prep grade - both worked very hard the whole morning. We finished, as usual, with a well earned morning tea.

Working bee - planting near Delta Street 26 June 2016

Image
Sunday Working Bee Report - 26 June 2016 We planted lots of grasses and some shrubs in the bush area just below Delta Street.  The soil was quite moist after the recent heavy rain so punching holes with the Hamilton tree planting tools was easy. As always, we finished with morning tea and a good chat. Our next working bee is Sunday 31 July (also National Tree Day) so come to the park to help with some planting and enjoy the free BBQ lunch provided by the City of Boroondara to participants.

Working bee - understory planting near Delta Street

Today we planted many native grasses and herbs near Delta Street, "infilling" areas that have been previously planted.   The plants were then watered in and we had our tea, coffee, cake and biscuits.

Working bee - spreading mulch next to the south east path

Image
For our first weekend bee in 2015, we spread mulch next to the path that runs between the Riversdale Road shops and the big bridge to prepare this area for later planting. There was a good turnout despite some passing showers. The next Sunday working bee is 31 May.

Sunday Working Bee 31st August, 2014

Image
We had ten people working very hard to plant over one thousand little plants in holes Adrian had dug with his auger. The sun was shining and the park looked really good. The bank at the end of the park below Delta street now has some bluebells, bulbine lilies, lomandras and various other plants filling in the spaces between the existing plants. We all lingered over coffee, tea and biscuits enjoying the sunshine. Ursula Povey, organiser.

National Tree Day working bee in South Surrey Park

Image
We had a lovely day for our National Tree Day working bee in South Surrey Park.  Many newcomers tried their hand at planting and did a fantastic job. We planted an area just down from the Scout Hall and a small area next to Riversdale Road. Everything was planted by 10:15.  We had a great BBQ provided by Boroondara Council. Another large group of planters arrived from Back Creek to share the food.
